Product Description

SOUTHERN GERMANY - 1828

Reprinted 2001 by Michiana History Publications

This inexpensive reprint is a best seller at our genealogy conferences.

Lithographed on 80 pound archival stock, and protected by a mylar or polypropylene sleeve,  this 11" x 14" reproduction makes  a great gift for friends and family or can be  an unusual door prize at family reunions or genealogy meetings.

This map was produced by the Arrowsmith Map Company in 1828.

Aaron Arrowsmith was born on July 15, 1750 in Durham, England. He moved to London around 1770 and around 1780 found employment with the firm of John Cary, an already established engraver and cartographer.

His 1796 maps of North America and 1807 maps of Scotland are considered his best works.

Shortly after 1800 Aarowsmith joined with an American partner, and in 1804 they produced their first atlas.

Arrowsmith's maps were known for their accuracy and were an important resource for planning Lewis and Clark's journey.

His reputation as a cartographer and engraver earned him the position of Hydrographer to His Majesty.

He was also a founder of the Royal Geographical Society.

He died in 1833, but his company was continued by his sons and nephew.
